Please note: We have adjusted the campaign to reflect a number of generous donations we have received off-line. The Childcare Resource and Research Unit (CRRU) is embarking on a crowd funding campaign—Taking care of child care data. The campaign’s purpose is to fund a significant piece of Canadian research—Early Childhood Education and Care in Canada 2014. We welcome all supporters —researchers, policymakers, early childhood service providers, social justice advocates, educators, students, parents—to help raise the funds needed to continue this regular collection, synthesis and publication of cross-Canada data and information that CRRU has long contributed to the early childhood education and child care (ECEC) field. Between 1992 and 2012, CRRU developed an edition of ECEC in Canada every two or three years—nine in all. Over the years, this work was funded by successive federal governments. The federal funding sources, which also funded other child care research, knowledge transfer and indispensible ECEC organizations, were terminated following the 2006 election. For the 2008 and 2010 versions, CRRU won federal contracts to develop ECEC in Canada (the 2010 report was published by the federal government). However, even this kind of funding source is now unavailable. Good data are vitally important for good policymaking, for policy analysis, research in multiple fields, advocacy and planning the provision of needed services for children and families. We believe that it is absolutely necessary to continue this project. With the help of ECEC data users from different sectors and the many other people who believe that a national child care program is long overdue in Canada, we will develop ECEC in Canada 2014—the 10th edition—and make the data, together with data from previous years available to all. Every supporter, no matter how large or small the amount contributed, will be acknowledged in the publication (unless he/she chooses to remain anonymous). We will inform all supporters who provide an email address when the new publication becomes available. Together we can strive to overcome Canada’s child care data deficit. Many thanks. ___________________________________________________ To view previous editions of ECEC in Canada and the newly released "State of early childhood education and care in Canada 2012" please visit: http://www.childcarecanada.org/publications/ecec-in-canada
