Bring Aaron Fotheringham to Edmonton!!

About This Campaign

On June 29, 2013, the SBHANA is excited to be hosting the first ever Skate for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus at the Castledowns Skatepark in Edmonton! As part of this event, the SBHANA is offering a NEW program - an introduction to WCMX and the skatepark! To do this, we have invited Aaron "Wheelz" Fotheringham to run the program. Wheelz is a an individual with spina bifida who has made quite a name for himself in WCMX - he was the first individual to land a backflip in a wheelchair! He is a true inspiration to all. This program is important to our association and our members because it showcases that nothing is impossible. Difference does not mean you cannot participate, it may mean, however, that you may participate in an activity in a different way. Recreation is an important part of healthy living and the SBHANA would like to encourage our members and other Edmontonians to be active, regardless of ability, in whichever sport they chose to participate. This program will give many individuals the opportunity to try something in a safe and welcoming environment that they would not otherwise have had the opportunity to try. Wheelz is the perfect individual to introduce SBHANA members to the fun and empowering world of WCMX. The SBHANA needs YOUR help to raise the funds to run this program. Please help us reach our goal of $4000 so our members can participate in this wonderful program! Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of NA

Campaign to Support Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of NA

The Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Northern Alberta was formed in 1981 and our mission is to improve the quality of life for people affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus through advocacy, education, research, and support. We run a number of programs including NoLimits Peer Support Evening and Camp Freedom. NoLimits Peer Support Evenings occur twice a month and they give our members a chance to meet up in the community and do something fun and/or educational. This evening gives our members a chance to socialize and get to know one another better. Camp Freedom is a one of a kind camp for kids aged 12 - 18 with spina bifida. It is a four day overnight camp that is fully accessible and gives these youth the opportunity to participate in camp activities in a safe, adapted, and welcoming environment. It also gives the opportunity to meet other kids with spina bifida and allows them to create lifelong friendships.
