Re-building Hope in Haiti

AVSI Canada is working together with AVSI in Haiti to build an Educational Center in one of Port-au-Prince’s most vulnerable neighborhoods, Martissant. “Jaden Lespwa” in Creole translates to “Garden of Hope” and will become the first Educational Center in the community dedicated to the development of the person with the mandate of providing free social services to the residents of Martissant. Jaden Lespwa will become a reference center and main community green space which will provide socio-educational services, educational activities, psychosocial support, a nutritional reference center and income generating craft workshops for vulnerable children, young people and their parents. Additionally, It will provide free access to fresh water to the neighboring school and to the community at large. Rehabilitation of the site and building is underway. In Support of AVSI Canada
AVSI-Canada is a registered Canadian non-profit organization. It’s mission is to support the AVSI Foundation by educating Canadian civil society about their work and by leveraging Canadian resources and support in order to enhance the work of member organizations in promoting the dignity of each person through development cooperation activities with a special attention to education, according to the Catholic social teaching. AVSI does not create dependency, but helps individuals and communities address their own present and future needs through education and building permanent and sustainable institutions. AVSI believes in fostering holistic personal development and human choice through education. All of AVSI’s interventions have a ubiquitous component: psychosocial support to support the person’s development as a whole.
