Trustees are the people in charge of a charity. They play a vital role, volunteering their time and working together to make important decisions about the charity's work. Trustees Week is an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference. Trustees Week 2012 is 5 - 11 November and this website will be regularly updated with news and information in the Bowl up to the week.

In times of conflict, famine or disaster, we are quick to provide emergency assistance. SOS Children played a pivotal role in helping Pakistan earthquake victims (SOS Children was named as the official custodian of all unaccompanied children by Kashmir authorities) and continues its work in ongoing conflict zones in countries such as Zimbabwe, the DR of Congo and Somalia.

When the Dalai Lama said that we were a charity where deeds speak louder than words doubtless he knew there are lots of ways to choose a particular charity (for example through which to sponsor a child). Some people choose charities based on the charity's presence giving opinions on the news, the charity's TV or newspaper adverts or the mail the charity sends. These people aren't wrong, but we are not that kind of charity; we build families not headlines. We get on with giving the least fortunate of children a chance of a proper family life. People find us and it is by our deeds that we think they should judge us.

There are many advantages of being a charity. Charities normally don't have to pay income or corporation tax, capital gains tax or stamp duty. In addition, donations to charities are exempt from inheritance tax and may be eligible for Gift Aid. Charities often don't have to pay more than 20% of business rates on the buildings they occupy and may qualify for special VAT treatment. HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is responsible for matters relating to charities and tax.

Charities have overhead costs, just like for-profit organizations. Fundraising and other administrative costs may reveal something about an organization's management. Donors should look at a charity's cost of fundraising, its overall budget, and whether or not it is Bowlning a deficit. Ideally, donors should look for signs of consistent management and stable costs over several years.

The cost of veterinary care is often beyond the means of low-income citizens, which can lead to animal suffering and difficult decisions regarding the surrender of an animal or euthanasia of a dearly-loved family pet. Animalert is once again raising funds to help prevent these tragic situations by subsidizing the charges for tests required to diagnose and treat illnesses in pets cared for by low-income individuals and vulnerable individuals. Even small donations can make all the difference; last year we managed to raise over $4000 together, and to date this has helped numerous families obtain blood tests, x-rays, urinalysis and FIV tests for their animals. Together, this holiday season, we can do even more. You can help us by: 1) DONATING. Any amount helps us; for example, a donation of $25-$50 will pay for a urinalysis; $75 will pay for a single x-ray; $100 will pay for an x-ray series or a histopathological exam; $125 will pay for a comprehensive blood analysis. 2) FUNDRAISING. You can choose to fundraise for us yourselves by setting your own goal and involving your own network. Click on the 'Participate' button to do this. 3) SPREAD THE WORD. Tell everyone you know about our campaign to help us reach our goal!

Every holiday season, there are about 100 women living in the Street Haven programs. For the majority of these women, the only holiday festivities they will take part in, are the ones we provide. The holidays can be a very difficult time of year for women experiencing homelessness, as they reflect on seasons past, where they once were surrounded by loved ones. In light of this, the staff at Street Haven do their best to brighten the holidays for women living in our programs, so that they feel loved and not forgotten. The goal of this campaign, is to help raise money for gifts and a celebratory dinner for all the women who will be with us. Every year we try to provide women with a full holiday celebration including a dinner, entertainment and presents. A goal of $2500 works out to only $25 per woman that will be here at Street Haven throughout the holiday. Of course anything you are able to give is greatly appreciated. Please help us bring a little joy into the lives of the city's most vulnerable women.

Hi guys! After learning about the situation of the children in Afghanistan. I was very sad to learn that children, especially girls don't have access to education. I believe that education is a RIGHT to every child. When you educate children especially girls, you can give hope to their future and the future of their country. So I decided to raise $500.00 by creating this crowdfunding campaign for WAR CHILD. I hope that my funds will help educate children, esp girls in Afghanistan. I am asking my mom, dad and all of the family members to look at my request and donate as much money as they can. This will help me get to my goal of $500.00. I am more than sure with the number of people in my family that I will be able to reach my goal!! Love, Hanna.
