Wilson Family Home

About This Campaign

Habitat RFV is pleased to welcome Jamie Wilson, RN, as a new homeowner in Carbondale’s Keator Grove. Jamie is the mother of three children, 11-year-old Riley , eight-year-old Luke, and six-year-old Landon.

Finishing college as a “teen mom” is just one of single mom Jamie’s many accomplishments. The 2004 Glenwood Springs High School graduate attended college at CMC, the University of Colorado Boulder on a scholarship along with her young daughter Riley, and most recently she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Denver School of Nursing in 2013. In addition, she is a Board Member of the Salvation Army, and part of the Garfield County Homelessness Task Force.

Jamie describes herself as making too much money to receive benefits, yet not making enough to be able to afford homeownership in the Roaring Fork Valley. Habitat for Humanity RFV is in a unique position to help families suffering from the “Cliff Effect”. Hard-working families can fall victim to the "Cliff Effect," in which even a modest increase in a family’s income can result in termination or ineligibility of government benefits.

Moving into Keator Grove will enable Riley, Luke, and Landon to walk to the Ross Montessori School—a simple, but meaningful step in providing the Wilson Family with a hand-up, not a hand-out. “I want to raise my kids in a community that knows and supports them,” Jamie explains. “I want them to have a home to grow up in and make memories in. I want them to see that what you do for others always comes back to you.”

Habitat for Humanity of the Roaring Fork Valley

Campaign to Support Habitat for Humanity of the Roaring Fork Valley

The Habitat for Humanity of the Roaring Fork Valley provides an option for low income families who otherwise would not be able to afford a simple decent home of their own, using conventional or low interest loans. Homes are sold with an affordable mortgage; monthly payments based on 29% of the household income are paid to Habitat. Monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving "Fund for Humanity" that is used to build more houses.

Additional funding comes from tax-deductible donations of money and materials. Volunteers provide much of the construction labor, working alongside partner families. Habitat for Humanity is a hand-up not a hand-out. Partner families invest 250 hours of their own labor - sweat equity - into building their home and the homes of others alongside of volunteers and the Habitat construction team.

As a result, the following program outcomes are produced: • Habitat brings the community of need together with the contributors, supporters, pre-qualified homeowners, and volunteers to build a better community by eliminating poverty housing. • Habitat provides families with a stable and growing base of financial security.• Habitat provides a permanent and lasting solution to a family's housing crisis.  • Habitat for Humanity is a movement of people who build more than houses. By bringing homeowners together with volunteers, donors, community leaders, foundations, churches, and hundreds of other supporters, Habitat builds stable families, safe neighborhoods, and caring communities.• Habitat helps to break the cycle of poverty by giving families the opportunity to become self-sufficient through home-ownership.
