Hike for Charity

Hike for Charity
How the Hike for Charity works: It’s the same as the Mayors walk; gather pledges to participate, the minimum pledge to participate is $25. 50% of your pledges go towards supporting the registered non-profit organization of your choice, the other 50% goes towards Volunteer Thunder Bay’s and it’s programs. VTB Members receive 60% of funds raised. Please note: your charity must be according to government regulations a registered charity in order for Volunteer Thunder Bay to share in the fundraising efforts. On the day of the event, come out and enjoy a 3 km, 5 km, or 10 km walk around Centennial Park. Once finished there will be a picnic style event that will include entertainment, and refreshments for your enjoyment as thanks for your contribution. Check our web site and facebook event page for updates. No registration fee for children 12 & under. Tips: Pets are welcome, but they must be on a leash and under control at all times. Poop scooping will be required. Last minute decision to come join the fun? A $25 donation makes you eligible to participate. Have fun!

Camp Gitchigomee has been a place of fun, learning, and renewal for me for the past 20 years! This picture was taken around the campfire of an Intermediate week in 2010.

Newborn screening alerts doctors to PKU. The rare disease requires daily balancing the specialty metabolic foods to prevent toxin from attacking the infant's brain, muscles and nervous system. Not all provinces provide adequate coverage for the treatment of PKU. Consider: Treat the disease to create highly productive professionals or fail to support and see them deteriorate until they require social and medical life support and institutionalization. We are the local PKU wellness and awareness team. http://www.rideforpku.ca/

I am fundraising for both Volunteer Thunder Bay and the Canadian Cancer Society. Both organizations are close to my heart. I have been working for Volunteer Thunder Bay for over a year now and I have been privileged to see first hand just how vital volunteers are to every community. Volunteer Thunder Bay promotes the need for volunteerism and helps community members gain the knowledge they need to know where to go. Like many family's, Cancer has sadly effected my family. I have lost multiple loved ones to the disease - most recent is this last March when I lost my Nana to Leukemia. The care she was given what the best that she was able to recieve, and I appreciate all that the doctors were able to do. I want to raise money for the Cancer Society to not only assist them to give that same care to another individual; but in hopes that one day they will be able to do more for them. The funds will be split 60% 40%. 60% - Canadian Cancer Society and 40% Volunteer Thunder Bay. Thank you in advance for your support for these two amazing Organizations! Below watch a video on paying it forward. Not everyone has lots of spare time in their lives to be volunteering so when you see a change to help out another individual, please take it. You have no idea how much a small gesture could change someones day :)

Help me encourage and empower volunteers throughout our community by supporting my fundraising efforts in our annual Hike for Charity event. A great event that raises money not only for Volunteer Thunder Bay but other registered charities across the city. A win-win situation :)
