Honored Guest

Dr. John Ruge
John Ruge, MD is a pediatric and adult neurosurgeon with the Advocate Health system. His hospital affiliations include Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Children's Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. After finishing medical school at Northwestern University Medical School, Dr. Ruge completed his internship and residency at Northwestern Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Children's Memorial Hospital. Dr. Ruge's clinical interests include Chiari malformation, syringomyelia, hydrocephalus, tethered spinal cord, brain tumors, head injury and other conditions.

CSF has had the honor to work with Dr. Ruge on educational programs in the past. Dr. Ruge helped us kick off our first ever Consider Chiari seminar at a Grand Rounds within Advocate Lutheran General to better educate the medical professionals at that hospital who may come across patients with these disorders. Dr. Ruge has also worked with CSF in the past on research projects and programs. We look forward to working with Dr. Ruge again in the future.

Shining Star Award

Susan Shidler
Susan Shidler began her Seven Woods Cavaliers in 1990 with CH Salvador Caldaire of Islehaven and Can CH Homerbrent Mohican, both co-owned with Trish Hutchins. Sue is known for health testing and long lived veterans.

Her early start of importing some fine dogs from Molly Coaker of the Homerbrent prefix and early health testing, especially MRI testing for syringomyelia, has afforded TriWood the ability to breed back to sound, healthy dogs.

Sue was the founder and first president of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Greater Chicago, a regional AKC club. Sue has also served on the Board of Cavaliers of the Midwest, a regional club of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, USA. She actively campaigns her Cavaliers at AKC and CKCSC USA shows nationally.

Event to Support Chiari & Syringomyelia Foundation

CSF: Who Are We?

CSF (Chiari & Syringomyelia Foundation, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in October 2007 with the goal of raising awareness and finding a cure for Chiari malformation (CM), syringomyelia (SM) and related disorders.

CSF Network of Experts

The CSF Scientific Education & Advisory Board is comprised of several internationally renowned medical doctors, professors, scientists and experts. Further, the CSF Board of Directors and Board of Trustees include community and business leaders, educators, legal experts, families and patients, who have long been advocates in the CM/SM community. Their skills and drive to develop, fund, and oversee CSF programs and research will improve the lives of the over one million families affected by Chiari malformation, syringomyelia and associated disorders in the US, alone.

CSF: Recognition & Awards

CSF is currently the only organization serving patients with Chiari, syringomyelia and related disorders to have earned all three of the following distinctions: BBB Wise Giving Alliance Seal, Guidestar Gold Seal and the Health On the Net Code. Check us out in the November 2016 issue of USA Today among the other nonprofits deemed as both effective in their missions, and responsible with their donors' dollars
