2017 Paddle the Peninsula with Matt Sheriff to support BGCLAH

About This Campaign

All donations will be matched, doubling your impact!

UPDATE: Paddling will commence on Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16 at 8am. Saturday we’ll meet at the parking lot above RAT beach, near the gazebo to coordinate getting cars to Terranea and then the shuttle back. We’ll launch at RAT beach at 9am and take out at Terranea beach. Sunday we’ll meet at Terranea public parking lot at 8am to coordinate getting cars to Cabrillo Beach and then shuttle back to Terranea for the launch. We’ll launch from Terranea beach at 9am and take out at Cabrillo. We’ll travel at a social pace and rest and regroup every ten minutes. Water time will be from 2-3 hours depending on the wind. I’ll have an iPhone in a water proof back for emergencies and I’ll see about getting a Redondo Fire Baywatch boat to escort us. We will need life preservers on board for each person. Bring something to drink either in a bottle attached to your person or a Camelbak. Call me if you have questions: 310.890.4449

Hello friends!

As many of you know I spend a lot of time in the ocean. What you may not know is I’m passionate about helping children in our community who need a little extra support.
Help me raise much needed funds for programs and building renovations at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the L.A. Harbor that benefit more than 2,100 kids per day. These Clubs provide amazing after school opportunities in the Wilmington, Lomita and San Pedro communities. As a newly elected Board member in 2017, my personal goal is to raise over $10,000 this year and I really need your help.

Please consider one or all three ways you can contribute.

Pledge:

• Consider a sponsorship of $1, $2 or even $5 per mile, or a set donation amount is more than fine. The $/mile goal is more for fun. If you just want to donate $100, I’m not going to argue!!

• My goal is to paddle with friends for four mornings for a couple of hours with a total mileage of about 50 miles over the period from Friday through Monday morning. So $1 per mile means you’d commit to about $50.

• To double your contribution several awesome friends have generously agreed to match and double all donations received by June 30!! NO MATTER WHAT THE LEVEL!

Participate:

• Feel free to join me. Better yet get your friends to sponsor you!

Promote:

• Please forward this far and wide to friends and family, colleagues, super wealthy strangers, and especially any watermen and women you know.

When: Dates to be determined by end of June, but most likely the second or third weekend in July, check back here for final dates. We’ll choose a weekend with likely mellow ocean conditions, in other words, this won’t be a raging downwinder.

On Saturday we will paddle seven miles from RAT Beach to Terranea (7:30am check in at RAT, lunch at Nelson’s at 11am) and on Sunday seven miles from Terranea to Cabrillo Beach (7:30am check in at Terranea, Victory lunch at my house at 11am with kids from the Clubs). If you’ve never seen the Peninsula from the water--now is your chance. We’ll stop every ten minutes to regroup. On the other days my plan is to paddle surf. All workouts will be tracked with Strava so our auditors from PWC (not the Oscars pair) can confirm the mileage. Each day, we’ll drop boards off at the start location, then cars at the finish and then shuttle back to the start.
