Studio 89 is a youth empowering social enterprise comprised of a fair trade café and an artademic resource centre that needs your help! It is currently an empty shell and without your assistance, it will remain an empty shell...A lonely, cold, hopeless, empty shell that will wither away in due time... We have currently locked down a space, which consists of a 1200 square feet cafe and a 500 square feet artademic centre, located on the second floor. The space is calling us louder and louder each time to raise the funds needed for renovation! Let us not fail 1065 Canadian Place, unit 104!
The Battle
• No youth led centres that promote youth empowerment and entrepreneurship in Mississauga
• No art resource centres or spaces for grass roots organizations to grow
• Difficult to access fair trade products
• Our consumption habits are having a devastating impact on our fellow humans, animals and the planet
Our double edged model, fostering youth leadership and artistic spaces locally while working to expand conscious consumerism, helping eradicate modern day slavery globally, stems from the need we have observed and studied in our community.
The Space
The Fair Trade Cafe would be a sit down space, promoting conscious consumerism through selling fair trade products such as coffee, tea, chocolate and t-shirts. The Cafe would also host a stage space for young people to present their artistic creations, hold open mics, poetry slams, and theatre performances.
The Artademic Centre would have art resources available such as paints, canvas, cameras, media editing software, etc. As well, youth could also have youth to youth tutoring sessions, and YTGA would host empowerment and entrepreneurship workshops here. Essentially, the Artademic Centre would be the creation space, where the FairTrade Cafe would be the selling space. Directed towards youth, we need the space to be engaging, cool, and educative, all at the same time!
