Magna Carta Canada

About This Organization

Magna Carta Canada is a charity organization which has been created to bring the Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest to Canada in 2015 for a touring exhibition. The exhibition will be an extraordinary opportunity for Canadians to learn more about one of the most important documents in the history of the world, a document which gave rise to our parliamentary democracy and our rule of law. The exhibition is anticipated to take place in the second half of 2015, to coincide with the 800th anniversary of the initial issuance of the Magna Carta, and is currently anticipated to visit 4 Canadian cities - Ottawa (the Canadian Museum of Civilization), Winnipeg (the Canadian Museum for Human Rights), Edmonton (the Province of Alberta Legislative Assembly Visitors' Centre) and Toronto (Fort York Visitors Centre). We have received formal approval from Durham Cathedral and the appropriate UK governing bodies to loan to us the Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest for this exhibition. We are assembling an Honorary Committee for the project, and have several people who have already committed to be honorary committee members, including the Right Honourable John Turner, the Right Honourable Kim Campbell, the Honourable Trevor Eyton, the Honourable David Peterson, Robert Armstrong, David Frum, the Honourable James Peterson, John Honderich, Jim Fleck, William Boyle, Almas Jiwani, the Honourable Roy McMurtry, the Honourable David Crombie, Robert Foster, Thomas Conway, Robert Lapper and Allan Finebilt. We have retained Lord Cultural Resources to plan and organize the exhibition. Lord Cultural Resources is a world renowned company which has participated in the design of numerous museums and exhibitions around the world.
