A Message From STACEY CHRISTOPHER
When I was 12 years old, I lost a classmate and friend to a mental health disorder. I have thought of her lots over the years, as I have reached various milestones in my life - things she missed out on. I will always wonder if she knew now what she would miss, if she would have made the same choice - she has been gone now for almost twice as long as she was here. I wish I had been able to let her know that it gets better and that no matter how bad it seems, every dark period ends.
As an intermediate health teacher, youth mental health is important to me because I see issues manifest themselves in my students as they struggle to change and grow and adjust to hormones and puberty and pressures in life. I am running to let my students know that I care and to help get them the valuable resources they may need.
About This Event
Please join us for the 2016 Halton Unbreakable 5k for Youth Mental Health. This 5k run celebrates what we have learned and accomplished throughout Children's Mental Health Week. It is either a goal event or tune up for participants in the Team Unbreakable program in Halton schools from both school boards.
Since the Team Unbreakable focus is on completion, the event is clock timed but not chip timed. For the same reason, all finisher’s receive a medal. As in every running community, we encourage all participants to do their very best while supporting and motivating all the other participants.
Registration fee includes Event shirt (moisture wicking), Finishers medal, and breakfast.
