Throughout the seven years Glenda Fry has worked at Aultman Hospital, she has crossed paths with many different people. In March 2014, Glenda crossed paths with two fellow Aultman Hospital employees who were in the middle of building their Habitat for Humanity homes. Fascinated by the process in which her coworkers were involved, and intrigued by the opportunity to own her own home, Glenda soon applied for the Habitat program. Glenda is no stranger to homeownership. A former Hoover Company employee, Glenda once owned a home. Due to financial strain after the company moved out of the area, she lost the house she once called home. Currently, Glenda and her daughter are living in a rental with a leaky basement which has caused black mold to grow. In addition to the mold problem, this rental property is not affordable for Glenda, and having owned a home before, she is eager to have a second chance to own her own home. “I would love to build a house for my family,” said Glenda as she thought about her two children, Marc and Megan. Glenda who is a single parent, feels like her greatest accomplishment has been raising her two beautiful children. Marc, a young adult, has completed two tours overseas in the armed forces and Megan is a stellar scholarathlete. With the support of her family, co-workers, and friends, Glenda has fully committed herself to completing the homeownership program and achieving her goals.

After completing financial training, home maintenance training, personal development classes, and other classes while also working on several worksites, the day came for Glenda to choose a lot to begin building a new life for her family. Much to her daughter’s excitement, Glenda picked a corner lot in Massillon with a floorplan referred to by Habitat as “The Meghan.” The Fry family will begin construction in the spring of 2016 and are looking forward to the experience of building their own home and developing new relationships with volunteers and other families on their Habitat worksite.
