A Message From Cathleen Bell

Running is my passion; it is where I find community and friends. Through running I am reminded of my strength and am inspired to challenge new goals. I believe running has the power to motivate, inspire, and connect us.
Last summer I had the opportunity to run alongside a number of young athletes who had spent months training for their first 5km race. These young athletes, who reside in some of Edmonton’s lowest socioeconomic neighbourhoods, were involved in an after school recreational training program. Through this program these athletes discovered new skills, developed goals, and overcame obstacles. As a youth worker situated in one of the schools where this program is offered, I saw the passion and excitement these participants expressed when discussing the number of laps they had completed or the fun they had with their friends while running. This program not only provides these children with a safe space after school, but it also nurtures their self-esteem and promotes resiliency.
As a runner I recognize the value of quality footwear. Many of the young athletes involved in this program do not have access to quality running shoes; they may run in shoes two sizes too small or a pair of winter boots. On February 14th I am participating in the River City Runners’ 24 hour Treadmill Challenge, which aims to raise over $10,000 to equip these little runners with shoes and nourishing snacks to fuel their training. Please help me help these athletes pursue their passion by providing them with quality footwear!

River City Runners 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge for Kids in Action

About This Campaign

Hey everyone, we've got an exciting update! Our treadmill sponsor, Flaman Fitness, has offered to donate $5,000 to Kids in Action when we hit our current goal of $10,000! We at RCR were blown away by this generous offer and we're sure you are as well! I know we've all worked super hard to raise nearly $7,500 but I have no doubt that we can keep pushing to hit that $10,000 goal! ----------------------- We're going big on this one! River City Runners (RCR) have partnered with Lululemon to raise $10,000 for the Hope Mission's Kids in Action Program. What's Happening? On February 14, 2015 RCR is holding a 24 hour treadmill challenge (we're going all night long baby). We're endeavouring to run 500 kilometers in 24 hours and raise $10,000 for the Kids in Action Program. The $10,000 will provide running shoes and healthy snacks for 200 Edmonton kids as they train their little hearts out for the Kids in Action 5k race on May 30, 2015! How can you get involved? We'll have two treadmills for the challenge. RCR will be running on one and YOU can run alongside us on the other one! We're breaking the second treadmill down into hour-long time slots. Each hour can be booked for a minimum donation of only $125. OK, this is awesome! What do I do next? Pick the hour (or hours) that you want to run with us from the list above. After you reserve your spot, you will be emailed a link where you can donate directly to Hope Mission. Then, get running!

Amazing work Cathleen - so glad I got to know a person as kind and generous as you! The amount isn’t huge but I tried to give a little to all the NP members – hope it will still help you to make it to your goal!
