A Message From Ana Carolina Correa

My journey started with a book... The Wine to Water book. Two years ago, as I read through Doc Hendley's story in Darfur, Sudan I learned about the thousands of lives that are affected by the lack of clean water. Ever since, I've developed a passion for learning more about this matter and spreading awareness to those, who like me two years ago, are oblivious to this world issue.

This past march, I traveled to the Dominican Republic with my FIU's WTW Chapter. There, the facts that I had learned and read about became a reality. I experienced first hand what is it like to have limited access to water, which is not guaranteed to be clean unless filtered or boiled (not even bottled water is 100% safe). After going to different homes and surveying how effective the ceramic filters had been, hearing how newborns were safe from water-borne diseases, and seeing how happy women were because they no longer got sick not only reaffirmed my passion, but showed me how even a small effort like my own, when placed together with the efforts of so many, can really make difference.

As I prepare to travel to Honduras next May, I look forwards to learning and emerging into a new culture, to living (even if its for a short 10 days) someone else's life, and in return, give my time and effort to the simple but yet so valuable necessity, that is access to clean water.

About This Campaign

The Mosquito Coast is one of the most remote places on earth and is located on the northern coast of Honduras. La Mosquitia, Honduras, is one of our more rustic and adventurous location for volunteers to join our efforts to provide clean water. This could include: digging a well, repairing broken wells, teaching hygiene lessons, construction projects, etc. It's a great way to dive straight into the culture as you sleep in a hammock each night and learn first hand about the water projects and the reality of the water crisis.Dates for Individual Travelers:
