A Message From Liv Cotman
This is my fundraising page for my upcoming volunteer trip to JAMAICA!
I have been selected by The Power to Be International to travel with 4 other students from Ontario to travel to Jamaica this upcoming Reading Week in February. We will be participating in The Lumifi for Literacy - Digital Reading Engagement Program - which is a reading program that provides support for struggling and unmotivated high school students to develop basic decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills. I will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with students in a high school.
As many of you know, I am in the Concurrent Education program at Queen's and education is something very close to my heart and important to me. I have a great passion for volunteering and helping others. Since volunteering in Jamaica in 2012, I have been waiting for the perfect opportunity to return to this very special place to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of many.
I am currently not only working towards an Education degree but a degree in Global Development Studies as well. Many of you know that volunteering is my passion. Whether volunteering for clubs here at Queen's or volunteering in underdeveloped countries overseas, this is when I feel pure joy and happiness. After travelling with Habitat for Humanity to Guatemala last reading week, I felt as though a change in pace to work in schools would be a fantastic opportunity.
As a part of my trip, I have to fundraise money to go towards supplies which we will be bringing with us and donating to the school we are working in in Jamaica. These supplies will make an incredible difference in the poor quality of education these students are accustomed to. Bringing books, paper, pencils, dictionaries, audio tools, and many other resources will have an amazing impact on this school. Supplying these resources is the beginning of the long road to reformed and deserved education in Jamaica!
If you have any spare change to donate towards these supplies it would be greatly appreciated from the bottom of my heart. Even if you can donate just $2 - think of it as sparing your coffee for the day!
Thank you so much to everyone for all of your support. If you can't donate please follow my fundraising efforts and when the time comes please follow my photos and adventures from my trip. Please share this and help me make a difference in Jamaica!
Lots of love,
