A Message From Farid Alam
May Peace be Upon you All,
I hope you are having a great day today. If anyone knows me well enough, they would know that one of my life goals is to open up an orphanage. But before I get there, I hope to do whatever is in my power to help children who do not have families across the world. By any means necessary. Orphans are not only the most vulnerable members of the society, they also have no mentors to guide and protect them. However, most problem also bring about opportunities. Sheltering, feeding, and educating an orphan can not only empower an individual, but at a communal level it can uplift families and societies. As the orphan grows up, they are able to uplift others out of their own misfortune. So with this motivation a, I have started a pledge. If I reach my goal, I will:
1. Match the donation up to $1500 which means sponsoring an extra three orphans (So when you donate, you are actually doubling your donation!!!)
2. Finish 60 community hours in 4 months on your behalf. These community hours will be done through teaching youth in MYN.
3. Participate and complete a 21 km in the summer marathon. I will be wearing an orphan sponsorship t-shirt
4. Start a non-profit geared towards solving social problems by next winter
5. Graduate this April from University. I know some of you want me to leave school
6. Make Dua (prayer) for all that donated when I visit Mecca this year. If you want your names to be mentioned, please put your name when giving donation
I try to make all of my promises something constructive. So when you are donating, you are also promoting community development, social justice and kicking me out of school :) If successful, I will post proof via pictures :).

An anonymous donation of $100 has been made to support Farid AlamA letter that had inspired me. http://en.people.cn/n/2015/0804/c90000-8930628.html Tears My dad passed away four years ago. My dad loved me very much when he was alive. My mom always tries her best to cook my favorite food for me. She must miss my dad very much. Mom was sick one day, we went to the county, and then to Xichang (to see doctors). But all the money is gone, her condition not improved. One day mom was too sick to get up. I cried in front of her and said to her: “ Mommy, you will get better soon. I will support you and cook food for you. After you eat the food I cook for you, and you go to bed, you will surely get better.” But the next day, mom still could not get up and she looked very sick. I had to ask my uncle who just came back from fieldwork and we together sent her to a county hospital. On the third day, I went to the hospital to see my mom but she still not awake yet. I washed her hand gently and she then woke up. Mom said to me while holding my hand:” my darling, I want to go home!” I asked:” why?” “It is not comfortable here, I will feel comfortable at home.” So I brought mom home and we sited for a little while. Then I went to cook for my mom. But by the time when I called her to eat for meal I cook, she was already dead. Text book said there is a place called Sun Moon Lake (in Taiwan). The tears I shed for missing my mom is just as much as the lake. Liu Yi June 20,2015
